Nook Does Not Like Change

My new washer and dryer have been delivered. The delivery guys seemed intrigued by the damask paper on the old machines. ;)

I have been catching up on laundry while pulling up the old flooring.

All this activity has traumatized my fearful little dog Nook. She is scared of the new sounds coming from the laundry closet, and she is scared of the new floor. I carried her outside to go potty, and she wouldn't come back in the house. I had to carry her inside. I set her down on a rug, and she wouldn't leave the safety of her "island."

Nook does not handle change well. New = terrifying.

And lest anyone worry... no, I didn't leave her stranded there. After I took the picture, I carried her into the bedroom, where everything is reassuringly unchanged. She is once again ensconced in her nook, where she feels safe.

  1. Poor puppy! My feline furbabies don't deal well with new/terrifying situations, either. Are you going to pretty up the new washer and dryer, too?

    1. Poor Nook is scared of everything. Conversely, my tiny 7-pound Min Pin is fearless, which is helpful because Nook sometimes takes courage from her.

I tried to peel the damask paper off the old machines and found that it left a terrible sticky residue. It's not supposed to do that! So I won't risk that on the new machines, but I will probably do something to dress them up.

  2. Poor Nook! When we move things (new mattress, move boxes due to a back room leak) my dog gets nervous like we're going to move out and leave her or something. She's pre-loved too, so it might be because of that!

    1. Yeah, you can never really know what rescue dogs have experienced. Once, I took my two to dog day care because I was having work done in the house. When I picked them up about four hours later, Indigo was out of her mind ecstatic to see me. I think she thought I had left her and was never coming back (as I believe her previous owner had done).

    1. Indeed they do. I just have to be patient with Nook and introduce new things slowly whenever possible. It helps when she can see that the other dog is not afraid.

    1. So true! When I first adopted Nook, I was careful to never leave anything out of place because it would frighten her. Laundry basket in the living room?! AAAH! So scary! She's better now, but she'll probably always fear bigger changes.
