Wizard's Potion and Crown

As mentioned in previous posts, I recently hung two lamps in my bedroom, using plastic channels to cover the cords. I also added new wood trim around a window. I wanted to paint the channels and the wood to match the walls, and I needed to touch up some spots around the shelf I recently installed. So I purchased the same paint as on my walls... but the color was a little off. Not surprising with an intense purple, especially since the walls were painted six years ago.

I decided to go ahead and paint the whole room. I used Behr "Wizard's Potion" in an eggshell sheen. It's very similar to the satin "Wild Elderberry" I previously used - just a bit lighter and with a softer sheen. The change is subtle, but it really freshened up the room. I am very happy with it.
Wild Elderberry on top; Wizard's Potion on bottom
both are more purple (less blue) than my camera would lead you to believe

There are now just two items remaining for the bedroom: crown molding and valances. I have the molding on hand; I hope to get it painted and installed this weekend.

The valances are on order and should arrive Monday. I couldn't find exactly the style I wanted, but maybe these will work.

I am now very close to finishing the bedroom. :) It will be so nice to have one room in the house completely done!

  2. Ohh these valences, I would probably be torn between whether I should use them as they were meant to, or find a way to drape them on myself :D

    1. Ha ha! Perhaps as an overskirt or a shawl... You would make them look fabulous, I'm sure. :)

  4. I LOOOOVE the valances! And the wall color is excellent; I think I like the new color a bit better than the original one.

I think I'm getting jealous. Your place looks SO much better than mine!!!

    1. Thanks! I like the new color better as well. Plus "Wizard's Potion" is a great name. :)

  5. I love that the paint is called wizard's potion! I think the slightly lighter shade is nicer too.

Cannot wait for the big reveal!!

  6. They are both nice colours! And Wisard's potion is a great name! I believe I chose my room colour Sky Boat Blue as a kid because it reminded me of the The Skye Boat Song. Cannot wait to see the final thing!

    1. The grey paint throughout most of my house is "Pewter Mug." Now I have "Wizard's Potion"... It's feeling a bit medieval fantasy. ;)

  7. I'm currently living in a partially finished bedroom myself. The only thing in there is the bed, and not even on a frame, since the floors are installed, but not finished. We've had to put the remodel on hold, since some work stuff came up that requires our attention and money. I'm jealous that your room is almost done and over how wonderful it looks. Great job!

    1. Thank you! My room was partially finished for a ridiculously long time. :P It was furnished and functional... but not finished.

  8. I am at war with my crown moulding/coving... The polystyrene stuff the previous owners of the house put up is all wrong and squiff and badly jointed. It is going down.

I hope to replace it with this: http://www.ukplaster.com/acatalog/Cornice_CN166-55.html but it is a) expensive and b) plaster. My walls are also not straight, because my house is old and old houses are never truly straight.

I have a black wall in "Rebel" and gloss black dado rail and shelves in "Black Magic"... how could I resist such cliche Goth names? :P Wizard's Potion is a great name. I've got a lavender colour paint I used around a window that's called 'Haunting Melody' and one of the purples I was considering for my study walls was called 'Vampire Romance' but came out too pinky, fuschia for me. I can't remember what the name of the purple I currently have is. I just call it "purple" :P

    1. Very nice! Good luck. :)

Ha ha! Those are great names. My grey wall color is "Pewter Cup." But the white on my trim and the black on my furniture are "White" and "Black." Must have been an off day in the Paint Names department. ;)
