Does It Come in Black?

Hey, what do you know, toilets come in black.

I came across this while looking for ideas for redoing my bathroom. Hmm... Intriguing. Would I want a black toilet? Certainly the color would go well with the bathroom's color scheme of black, grey and purple. But shiny black would probably show every tiny piece of dust and lint, which would drive my neat freak self crazy.

A Google Images search seems to indicate black toilets are found mostly in contemporary or modern style bathrooms.

Would a black toilet work with the sort-of-Victorian, kind-of-gothish, not-sure-how-to-describe-it style I'm going for in my bathroom? I am not sure...

What do you think of the idea? Anyone have a black toilet?

  1. Nope. My toilet is white. Suggestion: How about a stainless steel toilet for your bathroom?

  4. We got the Kohler Portrait which I think is kind of Victorian looking - two black and one white. My theory is that hopefully they don't show iron stains from the well water as much as the white, but I'll let you know whether I regret getting them and the black sinks once we move in and actually start using them. They sure do look pretty sitting in our library right now though! :)

  5. They look good in an interior design magazine, but I'm not so sure that having one is actually practical for all of the above reasons; bathrooms are usually also pretty small, and a black toilet probably wouldn't help.

  6. Yeah, I would also not buy it because of waterspots and the fear of never getting it truely clean. I'm not goth enough for a black toilet! ^^

  7. I agree with The Insomniac regarding hard water stains. I'd give it a go!

  8. If you like it, you should. Like some others, I have problems with hard water rings so I'm wondering if that would work. My fella almost bought a black toilet for his home but then worried it would look too bachelor pad. Plus, he felt like he would need to replace his sink and his shower. In the end, it just didn't go.

  9. My dad had a navy blue bathroom in the 80s and he said he was always having to clean it because it showed all the dust, I presume you might have that problem with black too.

  10. Since you and many others in comments are skeptic about how a black toilet is kept looking clean, how about a gray toilet? Wouldn't it fit your color scheme on black, gray and purple? :) Those are lovely colors to use in decor!

  11. Thank you all for your comments. There are definitely pros and cons... I'm not too worried about the inside because I've never had issues with hard water and because I clean the toilet too often for it to ever look dirty. (Fastidious much?) The outside, however, could be an issue if it shows dust and/or water spots. And to Fee's point, my bathroom is really small. A black toilet next to a black vanity on a dark floor might be too much dark in a small space.

  12. I just imagine going to the bathroom at night and missing the toilet cause it's so dark and ending up sitting on the floor with a bruised butt ha ha.

  13. I'd go for purple! Is there any such thing??

I tend to avoid black in my decor, entirely. Since my wardrobe is all black, it's just too dark overall. Place black socks on black bedspread = can't find socks. :) Our house has black granite countertops in the kitchen and master bath (previous owner's choice). So, place black bobby pin on black countertop = can't find bobby pin. Ugh, the problems I have!! ;D

  14. Perhaps stainless steel would look better as it's more reflective? But it can also look industrial and shows water-spots. Our toilet is ivory with a white toilet seat & lid as chosen by the landlady. I'd at least have a black toilet seat & lid if it was up to me...
