Bat Hair Clips

A while back, I ordered a pair of hair clips from Restyle. They are an ornate design with bat wings and purple gems.
from Restyle

I knew they were small, but when they arrived, I was disappointed to see that the actual clip portion on the back was really tiny. They were much too small to be functional in my long, heavy hair, and if I clipped them on just for decoration, they quickly got lost in all the hair.

But now I have shorter hair! Which, by the way, looks like this when blown dry straight:

I can still fit only a small lock of hair in the clips, but the shorter hair is not too heavy for them to hold. Now they can actually be functional and not get completely buried.

They're so cute! The one annoying aspect is that they're both "left-sided" clips, meaning the clip opens on the same side on both. On the Restyle picture, both clips are on the left side of the model's head. But I like to wear one on either side of my head, so the right side clip requires some finagling. :P

  1. I love your new hairsyle! I know what it's like to cut off long hair, mine used to be down to my butt :)

  2. They look great! I have so much trouble with hair clips; my hair is very fine, so if the clip is heavy at ALL, it slides down and off!

    1. Yes, I think many people have that trouble. I've seen little rubbery tubes that go on the clip to help hold it in place.

My problem is that I put too much strain on the clips and they get bent out of shape. On occasion, a clip will suddenly spring open under the pressure. Once, I was in a meeting at work and my hairclip spontaneously sproinged off the back of my head and hit the wall behind me with a loud sound. Everyone looked my way in surprise. I picked up the clip and said, "Sorry, they do that sometimes." People were apparently amused by how calm I was about the incident. One of my coworkers started laughing so hard, she had to leave the room. :)

    2. Hehehe, I would have been laughing, too! The way you describe it, it sounds rather like a poltergeist is following you around, attacking your hair clips... ;-)

  3. Wow, that's really cute! A bit annoying that they both have the clip on the same side since most people wear one on each side, but I guess it saves time making them that way!

Darn it, I really want them now! I was hoping you would say not to buy them so I wouldn't be tempted!

    1. I was about to say that you're safe because Restyle are sold out of the clips, but it's the black and cyan that are sold out. :/

  6. Those are SO pretty! I never do anything with my hair, I sort of just brush it and let it do whatever it wants- now I'm thinking I should try some clips!

    1. Can't hurt to try! :) I'll be doing some experimenting myself; I have probably a dozen clips that I haven't used in ages.

  8. They look beautiful on your newly straightened hair! And is the necklace from Restyle, too? Because they go together very well! :o)

    1. Yes, the necklace is from Restyle, too. They also sell matching earrings. I passed on those because they looked heavy.

  10. I love your hair, but I could be biased. ;-) I keep mine in a shoulder curling length with the same fringe. My gal does a slight (very slight) undercut to keep it flatter and thin my mane; do you do that?

I would desperately like to attempt to pull off an undercut like Natalie, but I just can't seem to bring myself to try it.

I LOVE the feeling of getting it trimmed. I wait too long and then gustily go for a good three inches to be lopped off. It feels so weightless after.

Anyway, you look adorable! And the clips are lovely!

    1. I don't have an undercut. After so many bad haircuts, I'm not brave enough to try much of anything. I'm still getting used to the layers.

When I was growing out my hair, a trim was anti-climactic. A true haircut makes me feel refreshed. :)

      Thank you very much!
