Next Up: Decor and Lighting

Now that I have painted my bedroom furniture, I'm trying to maintain my focus on projects for that room. It would be wonderful to have one room in the house completely finished!

Most of the remaining projects are related to decor or lighting. After collecting lots of ideas on how to fill the expanse of purple wall behind my bed, I'm now narrowing down the choices. I really like the idea of using fabric, possibly sheer or lace. Perhaps something like the photos below, but in black instead of white.

As for lighting, I want to replace my cheap, boring floor lamp with something nicer. Lowe's carries a torchiere that is very pretty; however, the globes on the side lights are shorter than light bulbs, leaving half the bare bulb visible. That really irks me. I'll have to see if there are smaller bulbs I could use.

I'd love to have a black chandelier somewhere in the house. Would a small one work as a bedside light, perhaps? I'd have to turn it into a plug-in light because there is no ceiling fixture in the bedroom.

On a completely different topic... I noticed on my blog stats that a few hundred pageviews came from Tumblr in the last month. The stats don't show anything more specific than t.umblr.com, and the search on Tumblr isn't very helpful. Anyone know how I can find out which picture(s) were put on tumblr and/or who put them there? I'm dying of curiosity!

  1. You are so talented, and your focus is very inspiring to me. The dresser is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen and I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with the bedroom wall.

Ps. I have that black chandelier in the last picture, in my dining room :)

  2. This looks so gorgeous and simple, very elegant! ♥
As for the chandelier, I would suggest to try in some home DIY furniture shop. For instance, here in Europe we have big shop chains where you can find cheap stuff (including those chandeliers)for no money. I am looking forward to see what you do with your wall too!

    1. I'm going to look in the secondhand stores to see if there is a light fixture I could repaint/restyle/hang a bunch of black beads on. I'll also check out the home improvement store. I've seen chandeliers there but haven't priced them yet.

  3. Great ideas! I always have hundreds of decor inspo pictures around!

Is there/ did there used to be a crimson version of that chandelier? A lot of clothing shops in Australia had a similar red one a few years ago that I desperately wanted!

    1. This particular chandelier comes in a pink version and a multicolor version. I've also seen similar chandeliers in red.

  4. I the idea of fabric behind the bed ... I'm debating about bed curtains on ours but being the crappy housekeeper I am and knowing the size of the spiders out here, I'm wondering if that's a very good idea.

Sorry I can't help with the Tumblr thing ... no account over there! I think if you install Google Analytics on your blog you get a better idea of the search keywords and landing pages of your readers. It wasn't very hard if I remember right, but it was four years ago! ;)

  6. I love these ideas! I actually used Sari fabric above my bed in the layout of your first picture, in my last apartment. It was fun.
