Bats on My Car

In October 2010, I put vinyl decals of black and purple bats on my car.  They lasted about a year before the purple faded to light blue and I wanted to replace them.  I wasn't sure what to expect when trying to peel them off.  They were brittle in the near-freezing garage and snapped into small pieces.  Easy solution - I put my car in the sun to warm up the decals, and they peeled right off! :-)  No damage!

My car was then batless for a while.  Because of the winter snow, the only thing stuck to the car was road grime.  This weekend was gloriously spring-like, finally giving me a chance to wash and re-bat my car.

They're not the same purple and black decals.  They're a set of bats in various shapes, all I could find this past October.  I'm not sure I like the new bats.  I think maybe they're too random.  Or maybe there are too many.  Maybe I just need to get used to them.  Or maybe no bats will ever be as good as the first bats.  What do you think?

  1. I like random. It reminds me of Carlsbad Caverns at sunset.

  2. Love the decals! Both varieties looks good. I would love to have bat stickers on my pumpkin coloured car!

  4. Love both of them!

Have you tried looking on Etsy for something closer to the original bats? If there aren't any available, some sellers will do custom items.

  5. I kinda like the new bats better. The randomness looks more natural, and the greater amount of coverage gives it interest.

  6. I like both, the old ones were quite stylised and therefore cool but the new ones look more realistic; as if they all just flew out of a dark cave somewhere to flutter above skeletal trees. It's atmospheric.

  7. Thanks for the comments, everyone. The new bats are growing on me, especially as I compare the photos. I might even like the new bats better before too long. The random pattern is definitely more like the way real bats fly.

I have to add that seeing the looks on other drivers' faces the last couple of days has been very entertaining. :)

  10. I love your bats. Where does one go to look for car decals? Are they specifically for cars, or are they the same as decals you purchase for walls in your house?

    1. Thanks! You can find decals for cars (made of "outdoor" vinyl) online. But my bats are just wall decals, the kind sold for Halloween decoration. The last set lasted almost a year, through several car washes. I'll have to see how well the new bats age. :)

Hah, I'd like to have them on my car. On my previous one I had a little silver dragon at the back...^^
